Joining a long list of influential and credible citizens asking questions about the events of September 11, 2001 AZ State Senator Karen Johnson - a Republican from District 18, steps up to the plate. A much loved Senator with many years of legislative experience and a laundry list of Republican endorsements under her belt she stands apart from the cowed and coerced Right wing of the isle on this issue and has gotten more and more vocal about it.
On May 3, 2008 she tells The Arizona Republic that,
“After three government investigations and more than six years, we still don't have answers on 9/11”
At face value such a statement can mean many things however, she goes on to clarify,
“Think back to that day: Those towers didn't just fall down. If they had, we would have had huge chunks of concrete breaking apart and falling into a massive pile of rubble. The buildings likely would have toppled erratically sideways and left a much larger pile of debris. But that's not what we witnessed. The towers didn't collapse - they disintegrated”.
So why would a Senator come forward almost seven years later?
“The events of 9/11 have never been properly investigated. It's about time they were” she says.
Her thoughts on media coverage of 9/11 – including the reporting on the 9/11 Commission Report, the long awaited and incomplete NIST Report and general polling data were pretty clear,
“The mainstream media parrot the less-than-credible conclusions of the 9/11 Commission without giving any thought to the many omissions and inconsistencies. In a truly free country, the press would ask hard questions and do real investigating, but this is not happening. Only the alternative media, such as Internet news sites, have done any solid investigating”.
“The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), a federal agency, which evaluated the collapse of the towers, has yet to issue its report on Building 7. "We've had trouble getting a handle on Building 7," said the acting director of their Building and Fire Research Lab.
Yet a number of private-sector engineers, architects, and demolition experts have not had that problem. They think Building 7 came down by controlled demolition. The building collapsed suddenly, straight down, at nearly free-fall speed. People heard the explosions, and saw the squibs and the characteristic billowing clouds of pulverized concrete so unique to demolitions. There is no reason to think that Building 7 came down for any other reason than explosive demolition.”
Many of us have come to not only expect non-news from our mainstream channels, but have stopped watching them entirely. Most real news with substance - whether local, state or national can be found sometimes days before it is reported on our television sets or in our papers and then only to be buried by more sensational stories involving Brittney Spears or matters in the entertainment sectors. News stories reflective of matters affecting the American People that are built upon vetted credible sources with a real investigative bent are few and far between - regardless of topic, and news regarding any non-conformist views of the official story on the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001 have been left for the blogisphere and other alternative mediums.
One should question why corporate owned media outlets are not seriously reporting on polls like Zogby that revealed 51 percent of Americans want Congress to investigate 9/11 further. That is a majority, surely that’s a number worth mainstream recognition not to be discounted with derision , but instead to be investigated and voiced from a platform where others who have quietly had the same unease and the same dark questions could finally see they are not alone.
Would others step forward? That remains to be seen however, the list is of figures no longer being swayed by party line politics is growing and people should take notice.
Few can haggle about the credibility of the following:
Ray McGovern – Former Chairman, National Intelligence Estimates, CIA. Responsible for President’s Daily Brief (PDB) for Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush. 27-year CIA veteran. Former U.S. Army Intelligence Officer said this in an interview that has since been removed from Google,
"I think at simplest terms, there’s a cover-up. The 9/11 report is a joke. The question is: What’s being covered up? Is it gross malfeasance, gross negligence? Now there are a whole bunch of unanswered questions. And the reason they’re unanswered is because this administration will not answer the questions.
Louis Freeh – Director of FBI, 1993-2001. Former U.S. District Court Judge for Southern District of New York, appointed by President George H.W. Bush. Former Deputy United States Attorney in New York. Former FBI agent. Former officer in United States Army told the Wall Street Journal in 2005,
“This astounding conclusion—in combination with the failure to investigate Able Danger and incorporate it into its findings—raises serious challenges to the commission's credibility and, if the facts prove out, might just render the commission historically insignificant itself. No wonder the 9/11 families were outraged by these revelations and called for a 'new' commission."
Rep. Curt Weldon – a ten-term Republican Congressman from Pennsylvania, the House Armed Services Committee Vice Chairman and Homeland Security Committee Vice Chairman had this to say on Fox News in Aug. 2005 regarding the 9/11 Commission Report,
"'There's something very sinister going on here that really troubles me,' Weldon told Fox News on Thursday, blasting the 9/11 commission for not taking the claims more seriously. He said some panel members were trying to smear Shaffer and Able Danger. 'What's the 9/11 commission got to hide?'"
Paul Craig Roberts, PhD – the former Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Treasury under Ronald Reagan, "Father of Reaganomics," Former Associate Editor of the Wall Street Journal and Currently Chairman of the Institute for Political Economy and Research Fellow at the Independent Institute, spoke about Editorial content concerning 9/11,
"There are not many editors eager for writers to explore the glaring defects of the 9/11 Commission Report. One would think that if the report could stand analysis, there would not be a taboo against calling attention to the inadequacy of its explanations."
For the record, he went on to state in another essay,
"We know that it is strictly impossible for any building, much less steel columned buildings, to 'pancake' at free fall speed. Therefore, it is a non-controversial fact that the official explanation of the collapse of the WTC buildings is false."
These are, but a few of the many courageous citizens who are willing to put their names, careers and possibly their lives on the line. There are many, many more like them. A full list of prominent people questioning the official 9/11 story is available for anyone to scrutinize.
As Senator Johnson – a very articulate and intelligent woman, tells the East Valley Tribune,
If we’re going to sacrifice our freedom, there ought to be a very good reason, and we have a right to know what that is. It isn’t enough for government to say, “Trust me.” It’s way past time for Congress to authorize an independent investigation of 9/11 that will consider the mass of new evidence that has been gathered in the past seven years. The longer they stall, the more suspicions grow”.
AUTHOR'S NOTE:
You do not have to subscribe to any theory to have legitimate questions, and in a Democracy it is the questioning of the People that holds the branches of government accountable. One could say after all these years,
“What does it matter, it’s been almost 7 years, let it go already…”
I, as well as countless others am not ready to let go. Thousands of lives were lost on that day. We all agree it was murder. In any other situation we would all unanimously demand a proper, thorough, legitimate, and unbiased investigation. Take that a step further by removing the political spin and party loyalty and all would see that the murders of Sept. 11th, 2001 did not stop that day, in fact, the death toll continues to grow by way of the ongoing and unclear War on Terrorism. The War in Iraq, whose case was erroneously and maliciously built around the horrific acts of 9/11 terrorism by an Administration that has since been proven to be bent on profit and power is a clear example of how 9/11 was used as a means to further promote an ideology of Washington power brokers, hawks, neo-conservatives, or more succinctly and accurately named, the PNAC.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t stop there. All roads lead to the 9/11 question, from war without boundaries, to the raping of our Constitution; from important legislation stuck in Congress and the Senate to soaring food and fuel costs. September 11th, 2001 was not an end to a means as some might say, in reality - as witnessed by every American struggling with the changes and challenges of today, it was more the beginning of the end and it is up to all of us - not just the Patriots I quote above, to do something before the final line of American History can be written or as we have grown to nearly accept in the post 9/11 world…re-written.
