Chelsea Clinton and boyfriend Marc Mezvinsky are perpetually caught in a political landscape not of her own making. Chelsea Clinton has been lost in a sea of gossip and the target of rumors, insults and jokes ever since her father Bill Clinton stepped into the presidential limelight.
And now that her mother Hillary Clinton has decided she must have her husband's old job, and has in fact drawn new fire on the family with her own behavior and comments on the campaign trail, daughter Chelsea remains awash in the cold surf of public travails.
Unfortunately for the young Ms. Clinton, her newest boyfriend, Marc Mezvinsky, whose dad Ed was pals with the Clinton when the two youngsters met, is serving an 8-year jail sentence for fraud.
This is just one more name to add to the list of "interesting" Clinton associates.
Clinton the daughter has been forced into a world that her parents imposed, unable to escape even as an adult, and has done her best to remain above the fray in the face of endless, sometimes wicked, gossip - the worst being the story that she is not the actual daughter of Bill Clinton, but the result of an affair between her mother and Webb Hubbell when they worked together at the Rose Law Firm. There are also rumors that Clinton the daughter has a brother that her dad fathered years ago, but has never publicly acknowledged.
Add to this the endless comments about Chelsea's looks - which were openly mocked during her teen years and which no child should be subjected by the "adult" world - and the never-ending Jerry Springer-like atmosphere surrounding her parents during her father's governership and presidency, and one may safely conjecture that the kid hasn't had a very easy life.
Now the young Clinton is following her mom around on the campaign trail, smiling a fixed smile and refusing "interviews" even with a 9-year-old kid. To her credit, she's always dutifully done whatever her parents asked of her, but one must wonder if being a perpetual first daughter is healthy for anyone.
She has also become a target for the causes of the Hollywood elite. She attended a February 1 dinner with Hayden Panettiere at West Hollywood eatery Ago, "Hayden made it clear to Chelsea she'll vote for whoever will help save the whales." TNL has more about that here.

On February 20, 1999, the New York Post carried the following report:
WASHINGTON - Juanita Broaddrick, the mysterious Jane Doe No. 5 from the secret Sexgate files, has broken her silence to charge that Bill Clinton sexually assaulted her in a Little Rock hotel room in 1978.
The 56-year-old nursing-home owner claims Clinton bit her lips, forced her to have sex with him, then told her not to worry because he was "sterile" due to a child-hood bout with the mumps.
The alleged incident took place 21 years ago - two years before Chelsea Clinton was born - when Clinton was Arkansas attorney general and campaigning for governor.
This quotation opens the door to a secret whispered rumor which has been around for a long time - That Chelsea Clinton is not really the daughter of Bill Clinton.
I do not like this rumor. What difference does it make? I also find repulsive the columns by Dick Morris in the New York Post and elsewhere that Hillary is a lesbian and that Bill and Hillary never have sex together.
In fact, when I read the columns written by Dick Morris, I generally think at first that this is something by Ken Starr, but even Ken Starr does not go that far.

What is especially objectionable in my mind is that Dick Morris was once Bill Clinton's best and closest friend. Now, he has turned against him and is trying to become his worst enemy (except that nobody really pays much attention to Dick Morris.)
Anyway, the story that Bill Clinton told Juanita Broaddrick that he was sterile and could not have children does raise the question of whether her story is true and is it really true that Bill Clinton is incapable of fathering a child, or did he just tell her that to get her to agree to have unprotected sexual intercourse with him.
Also, if Hillary is really a Bull Dyke lesbian as Dick Morris now claims, then how did Chelsea get born? By artificial insemination?
It does seem remarkable that although Bill Clinton clearly has a penchant for women, he has only produced one child, whereas I, for example, have made seven.
Clinton's interest in oral sex and disdain for vaginal intercourse may be one explanation, but does not seem to explain it entirely.
