I love Weazl words.

Its good you choose to share your wisdom with us. I always listen to what you have to say, or blog. Always learn more.

So please, keep doing it.

Did you see what Bill Maher said? Shame on him. He is not our friend.
check it out:

Bill Maher: 9/11 Truthers need professional help, not publicity

What an ass. Of course he does not include WTC 7 in his stupid rant. Most in denial do not. oh well..he will lose more admirers than he thinks. He is a big disappointment.

Peace my friend.

Weazl,

I am the daughter of 'The Freewhelling Socrates' and I like your website.
As my dad has told you, I'm sure, I had to write and essay for school recently and my teacher never gave my essay back to read to the class.
In my essay, I told the truth about everything that happened on 9/11. I'm assuming this shocked her because, as I already stated, she didn't return my essay and told me we didn't have time to read it and "Maybe we'll have time on Monday". Well, that was more than 5 days ago and I'm still waiting.
I plan on reading Weazl's Revenge regulary because my dad says that you're almost as smart as he is. I want to register on your website to read the articles and post comments, but I don't have an idea for a screen name. Do you have a suggestion?

I heard that you play tennis very well. I too am very interested in tennis and recently have made the Varsity Tennis team as a freshman in high school. Maybe next time my dad and I go to San Fransisco we could play doubles with you and a partner?

I will talk to you later, I'm sure.

Dear Joyce,

What to say? Bill Maher's comments regarding 9/11 are just pretty dumb. There is simply a deluge of material that exposes his little tirade as simply retarded. He sometimes gets things right, but is way off the mark on this one. Last time he gave his opinion regarding 9/11 when saying that the "highjackers" were not cowards, he lost his show.

Bill Maher is a comedian, not a thinker, and it shows.

Melanie,

Thank you so much for stopping by and sharing the story of your essay. You are well ahead of me because in the 9th grade never would I have believed that the government could be responsible for as many crimes as I would later learn about. It also should not be surprising that your school does not want to publicize your essay: education is designed not to create thinkers, but nice little followers who are able to effectively repeat what has been told to them. And the better you are able to repeat things, the "smarter" you are supposed to be. Critical thinking is often discouraged: challenging teachers' opinions can often be viewed as engaging in "disorderly" or "disruptive" behavior, especially if such challenges occur on a regular basis. And what you will learn about as you grow older is just how many lies you are told. In fact, there is a great book on the subject, "Lies My Teacher Told Me," by James Loewen, that you might want to read. But having a father like Socrates, who is exposing you to these ideas may make you a more critical thinker, and someone who has a deeper understanding of the world other than focusing on Britney's weight, the Yankees or other foolishness, but it will not make you a fan of your teachers (though hopefully there will be exceptions). But keep trying to expand your horizon. This "problem" however will not go away, as you will encounter the same resistance as you go to higher grades, go to university, and beyond. Education is a very effective training mechanism, and institutions often don't like having their messages challenged.

As far as tennis goes, congrats on making varsity as a frosh. It would be fun playing doubles in San Fran when I return. Unfortunately, until the country is looking a little brighter, that might not be for a while.

I have spend nearly my whole life playing tennis, and even now teach a little bit. Playing in tournaments has allowed me to travel all over the world. The sport has given quite a lot to me. Keep it up. I wish that I could see your game and try to give you some tips. Let's hope that such time can come sooner rather than later.

Cheers, and drop by again soon.

We went to Amazon.com after reading your response and ordered the book, "Lies My Teacher Told Me." The English teacher who scuttled Mel's essay may flip her wig when she sees what Mel is reading during the obligatory 20 minute silent reading time.

Your answer to Mel showed exemplar thought and wisdom.

I think she has found a new icon to look up to.

Well, I don't know about a new icon to look up to, but she definitely is invited to post and I will respond to her as best I can.

Weazl doesn't believe in icons or heroes: all they can do is let you down. Weazl does believe however in friends and inspirations.

At this point, let's say this might be a place where she can find new friends.

Thanks for sharing this site with your family, Soc.

Cheers.
