Noam Chomsky -- Was It Then? Or Now?

He's often right. I do have some disagreements on some pretty imporant issues with him (namely, 9/11 and the historical role of the CIA). A year and a half ago, I sat in his office and we discussed these things. He is quite a nice man.

Yeah, it was really a pleasure to talk to him. I've gotten the chance to talk to him a few times, though the last time was the longest, and we were alone (though it was filmed). He has an amazing recall of dates and cites, and his ideas have definitely been borne out in fact.

If you are most interested in seeing him destroy a so-called intellectual, you should see him demolish Alan Dershowitz on the subject of the US and Israel, at Harvard. If you plug their names in, you can probably find the debate. Dershowitz resorts to his tactic of filibustering because he is nowhere near Chomsky's equal.

The most interesting thing in our conversation was that after he gave a message of hope and optimism, when we turned off the camera and I told him of my views (which you can imagine are pretty cynical), the responded how he mourns for the quality of life for his grandchildren. To me, that said it all.

I don't think humanity will last more than 200 more years. There are a confluence of bad signs. Nuclear holocaust is simply one threat.

Splitting the world into neighborhoods is what is called the nation state system, and it largely heralded periods of peace in the Post WWII era. The place where we are at is where those national boundaries, as fictitious as they were, are being challenged for economic, political, geopolitical gain. This takes us way back in history to a place where people died on regular campaigns. This is a time of great death and misery brought on the by the Bush crime family, and the mascot moron of the bunch.

Gary Webb wrote about that; Bob Parry wrote about that; Alexander Cockburn wrote about that; Alfred McCoy wrote about it. It's been going on for a long time. Heroin, coke, illicit drugs. Important part of black op economy. Alfred McCoy's work is the best. Gary Webb died for it. If you want to hear weazl talking about the issue with Gary Webb before he died, go here:
