Government Spokesman: Iran's Nuclear Achievements Soon to Be Unveiled

2006-08-25

TEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- Government spokesman Gholam Hossein Elham said here Friday that Iran will declare the nuclear achievements it has recently gained.

"We have made some new scientific progress in the field of nuclear technology which we will announce soon," Elham said while he was addressing a fervent congregation of Tehrani worshippers at Tehran University Campus.

He said that Iran has also made other scientific and technological advancements as well.

Elsewhere, the Government Spokesman said Iran is now enjoying the best historical conditions and standing, stressing that other countries also confirm this powerfulness and mightiness of Iran.

Elham described Iran as the a very excellent epitome of authority, capability and self-reliance not only for Muslim nations, but also for the Americans, Latin Americans in particular.

Elham pointed out that the current government has brought the grassroots in its limelight and provided tens of thousands of people with the "justice shares."

Referring to the provincial trips of the government, Spokesman Elham said resources should be distributed among the whole nation in a just manner.

The government has so far made 18 trips to 140 towns which account for 40 percent of country's whole towns.

He said the development budget of the nation has increased to 80 percent for the first time adding that more than 400 projects are also under feasibility studies.

Elaborating on government measures on the occasion of the Government Week, he said 136 vocational centers, 120 higher education institutes, 251 gyms and 96 tourist zones have been established.

Elham further said that 50 refineries and industrial units, 34 industrial townships, 14 customs units and eight international exhibitions would be set up in 15 provinces.

The official said that the formation of the current Iranian government has been a traumatic shock for the Western states and their school of democracy and liberalism.
He said governments are doomed to failure unless they meet the needs and capacities of their people. The current Iranian government has been formed on the basis of addressing the nation's demands, he added.

"We witnessed another failure of the Western democracy in military terms in Lebanon," he said.

Japanese intelligence officials are alerting the world that North Korea is about to conduct a nuclear test. In response China and South Korea have declared that they will work together to prevent it from happening. This is very bad news for world stability, because China and South Korea are the least confrontantional members of the group of nations dealing with the issue.

If North Korea is given any form of concessions at this point, Iran will take notice that the world doesn't have the guts to confront a nation who has the bomb, and thus will surely complete their uranium enrichment and build their own arsenal of nuclear bombs. And the danger posed by North Korea, while extremely troubling, is nothing compared to what the world would face with a nuclear armed Iran, intent on destroying Israel and imposing an Islamic state throughout the entire region.

North Korea should be made to understand that a nuclear test, would itself be considered an act of war, and that from that point forward, any missile launch of any kind from North Korea would be considered nuclear and the US (and hopefully, China and Russia as well) would immediately respond with nuclear weapons. This is essentially the policy of 'mutually assured destruction" that worked very well during the Cold War. Iran would have to take notice of this tough action. Anything short of it would give Iran the green light to carry on with their nuclear ambitions, and if Iran is going to be stopped, it better be done before they have nuclear bombs.

It does not appear that North Korea has any grand global designs, and thus would be contained by the nuclear threat. However, Iran is another story and we cannot rely on the hope that the concept of mutually assured destruction would keep them in a box. Ahmadinejad is motivated by his religious beliefs that provide the justification for him to create chaos and havoc. A nuclear exchange just may be something he is willing to contemplate. We must stop him before his nuclear goal is met.
